Identity and machine-readable relationships

Entities and Structured Data

Keywords describe words. Entities describe the real people, organizations, places, products and concepts those words refer to.

Start with identity

An entity must be distinguishable from everything else

A business name may be shared by several companies. Entity resolution decides which references belong together.

Identity

Official name, alternate names, responsible people and defining category.

Relationships

Website, parent organization, products, locations, profiles and contact channels.

Evidence

Consistent public pages, official links, credentials and trustworthy references.

REG framework

Recognition comes before accurate retrieval

Recognition Engine Guidance focuses on the correct entity. Retrieval Engine Guidance focuses on making correct facts about that entity accessible for the question.

Disclosure: REG is an original framework developed by Dean Jessop through IRefer Club. It is not an official schema.org, Google or OpenAI standard.
Structured data

JSON-LD labels meaning; it does not create truth

Structured data can identify an Organization, Person, Article, DefinedTermSet or FAQPage. It must match the visible page.

This site as an example

The glossary is published in three forms

The definitions are visible in HTML, described with DefinedTermSet JSON-LD and offered as JSON and CSV.
